Letters to Unnr
- A Dream I Dared to Dream: Loki's Council July 1st 2022
  
  I had a dream, Unnr.
  
  I know, I know. Usually talk of dreams is a rather tiresome and tedious topic, but this one… could very well foretell my future. I felt as if I were one of the Norns, seeing fate clearly with my own eyes.
  
  You see, I had been reborn. Perhaps after Ragnarok, perhaps after some less cataclysmic fate. Regardless, so, too, had Loki and most, if not all, of the gods.
  
  Unfortunately, the body I had been reborn into was once again female. Nonetheless, I persisted as I am - as mostly male.
  
  I had discovered Loki, somehow. Sought him out as I do now, but our fates entwined. Along with me was a council of others that wished to see Loki king, asking only for a pittance in return. For my part, I sought command over the Midgardian seas - previously the domain of our father, mother, and dozens of other gods from other pantheons.
  
  However, I wanted them to myself, and Loki had promised this to me in exchange for my obedience, power, and… my body. You see, I had proclaimed my undying faithfulness to him, and whether he fancied me as well, or not, he took me as his consort. I would be his, and give unto him heirs for his vast kingdom.
  
  Beyond myself, the council consisted of… gods I could not name for you, for I do not remember. Even in the dream, I complained of memory faultiness from some sort of injury or defect of birth of my mortal frame. Regardless, there was a woman, with whom I was tentatively friendly, along with two men. I surmise that not everyone was from our pantheon, because the woman had a peculiar accent and spoke of other deities I'd never heard of.
  
  Whilst we conversed, the woman showed off a relic she'd acquired that would aid us in our conquest: some sort of oblong cuboid item simply called the Stone. The Stone had the ability to increase the power of any element spoken aloud to it. For instance, the woman spoke the word 'fire' and the Stone alit with flame. I was handed the object and I, of course, spoke aloud 'ice' - to my delight a curious, cooling power thrummed throughout me, emanating from the Stone.
  
  I was loath to give it up, but I did. Loki tested out other elements, until I had an idea spark within. I spoke aloud 'fel', but alas, nothing happened. Then, I spoke aloud 'ethereal' and… the Stone pulsed with dark energy, Unnr! Images of skulls floated up and away from the Stone, and all in the room could sense the danger of having such power - power over death and souls - but Loki only smiled and took the Stone from the one that had been holding it, before powering it down and stowing it away in his satchel.
  
  The goddess and I conversed in an aside while Loki and the other men were in deep discussion about something or another. I accidentally revealed my feelings for Loki to her, and she teased me openly, but in jest. Just then, a booming voice with an Asgardian accent interrupted us all, and from the doorway emerged… my mortal body's brother.
  
  At first, most in the room were struck silent by the intrusion, but then laughter broke out, and I asked of him "Pray tell, brother, why have you come? You know your 'sister' is no longer, yes?"
  
  "Indeed," he stated. "But I would have words with you, for I, too, have awakened to my true power."
  
  With that, he roared, and a great orange flame erupted from his body, licking the ceiling high above! The flame shifted colors to green (fel flame) then purple (ethereal flame), and then I noticed that my brother's body was becoming overwhelmed with lacerations and scorch marks.
  
  "Stop at once!" I pleaded. "You'll kill yourself!"
  
  Alas, he could not hear me, and the flames burned higher and hotter still. Desperate, I cast a freezing spell on him, and he fell unconscious and tumbled to the floor.
  
  Sighing, I gathered up his unconscious, charred body and placed him on a lounge chair.
  
  And that is when I woke up.
  
  What if this is all true, Unnr? What if I, Loki -- everyone we know -- is to die and be reborn, only for Loki's conquest to be renewed with us. What if I am to be by his side as king's consort, perhaps even a king myself, while we and the council take our rightful places as rulers over the nine realms and beyond?
  
  I am unsure what to think, sister, but… I want it.
  Very, very badly. What should I do?

  Beloved Unnr,
  
  I do not remember how I escaped the dungeons of Asgard. I do not remember how I came to hide amongst the Vanir. I only know that I am here, now, and there is little I can do. My dear sister, tell me that father is well and has not been imprisoned. Tell me that our sisters have forgiven us. Allow me to return to the comfortable life I once took for granted. Perform these miracles for me, sister, and I can finally come home.
  
  I know I ask the impossible, so although I know you cannot help me in this, I must make a final request: Do not tell father where I have gone. His friendship with the king of the Vanir will be ruined, and my crimes in Laufey's name will only bring more shame to the family. If you can, tell Sif that I am sorry. In fact, tell that to all of our sisters as well.
  
  One day, I will find a way to see you and father again, I will mend the bridges I have burned in Asgard, and the Halls of Aegir will once more be filled with laughter, flow with ale, and shine with our lost riches.

  Your letter finds me in conflict with my heart and mind. Though I am gladdened by the news of our family's safety, and worried of the tidings of the Dark Elves and their growing support of Blodughadda, I cannot seem to wrench my thoughts from the languid, timeless existence I've settled into.
  
  The oceans sing to me, sister, a silent song with the voice of Midgard. I know I am able to pull myself from the deepest of waters, but I find myself not truly wishing to. I fear my thoughts are no longer my own, though I feel no other presence within me, so I know my body has not been possessed.
  
  And yet, through the voices of gulls and the fingers of kelp, I've heard-tell that beings of our realm, of the Nine Worlds, have set foot on Guildereim once more. Surely the promise of glory and defeat of Svartalfheim's wicked denizens will convince these beings to aid us. Why must I continue to rely on the strength of others, sister? Why are my powers so meek compared to that blood-haired traitor?
  
  I look forward to the day when we might embrace once more, beloved Unnr. Until then, may the seas' currents run ever in your favor.

  My Dear Sister,
  
  I have returned from my voyage across Midgard's seas, and although much progress was made in the way of my magical training (I have improved upon my transforming to hold the shape of an ice weapon with little to no concentration, as well as my summoning to materialize more magical water), I have lost ground in the search for Prince Loki. ...Ah, but I am getting ahead of myself. First you must know what happened before I left.
  
  My first arrival upon Midgard's shores after two centuries was hailed by a son of Loki, Vali. Our meeting was unfortunately brief, but he insisted I give up my search, stating the Liesmith would never care for such trivialities as someone else's concerns. You and I both know why I refused to concede. Shortly after, I met with Vali's mortal bride-to-be, Layla, an assassin of the dry land of Syria. After some weeks on the island I'd landed upon (Guildereim, it is called), I was reading in the dusty back room these mortals call a library when yet another son of Loki, Narfi, stumbled over me. Or was it Vali? I'm not certain, but it matters little. After we'd gotten acquainted, one of the brothers revealed an item he'd been studying, called the Apple. It looked more like a round metal ball, but radiated such intense energy- you would have been awestruck to see it, sister. Suddenly, the artifact lashed out and took control of one of the brothers. I attempted to knock the Apple from Lokason's grasp with a magical ice barrage but, then when this did not work I tried to encase it in ice. Nothing worked. A strange being appeared before us, and I was stricken unconscious.
  
  Not long after this, I left on my voyage across the oceans. When I finally returned, Layla, the Lokason's betrothed, said that he'd vanished not long after I, and only returned recently with his memory of recent events, including herself, gone. She says he wears some vile black amulet that exudes a darkness she's not able to describe. During this conversation, I became acquainted with Jormungandr, the great World Serpent (and yet another Lokason). He says the aquatic creatures of Midgard speak often of me. I must remember not to converse with them so freely in the future...
  
  Ah, but I am off topic. I of course prodded Layla for her reasoning of not attempting to remove the evil thing but she states she has her own issues stopping her. I know not what to do, Unnr. Blodughadda still runs free, threatening you, our sisters, and our father, not to mention the rest of the Aesir. I know you once said that helping Loki in his own quest would defeat the purpose of mine but... I must believe, in my heart of hearts, that he would spare those that fell before him in loyalty. I must, for there is no other way to defeat her.
